Claire Pijman graduated from Amsterdam Film Academy in 1990. She has worked as cinematographer for fiction and documentary films, as well as directing her own documentaries.
Her long co-operation with Robby Müller, the well-known Dutch cinematographer, began from working on the stage of Wim Wenders's Buena Vista Social Club. Muller has been one of the most influential people in her life.
Among the films directed and cinematographed by Claire Pijman are Foot on the Moon, a short documentary about the backstage of The Dancer in the Dark by Lars von Trier; Talking Guitars, screened at IDFA 2007 and HotDocs 2008; Later We Care, selected by IDFA in 2009. Her latest documentary, Living in the Light: Robby Müller, is a movie about this great cenematographer and his body of work, based on his personal archive. The documentary was screened at the 75th
Venice Film Festival and will be screened in the Portrait section of the Iranian Cinema Verite.
